SATURDAY -- Pump Operations Class Duration: 8 hours Cost for class is $35 ( This is a 1 day class offered Saturday & Sunday ) ( Class fee covers Lunch, Supplies and Insurance for the school ) Martin Rennison will instruct the Pump Operations. This one day class will be an extensive introduction for any new pump operator and an excellent refresher for the more experienced pump operator. All scenarios and drills will be hands on. Any fire fighter who operates pumps on a fire ground, whether new or more seasoned, is welcome to attend this class. Upon completing this pump operations class the student will have an opportunity to learn, the basic, efficient, and safe method of priming a pump in a consistent manor. The safety of the interior fire attack hose team will always be the primary focus of the effective pump operator. The student will have a better understanding of their responsibility towards maintaining a safe fire ground operation. Class outline: In this class each student will be introduced to the basic procedure of how to efficiently and effectively prime a pump and establish a water supply from draft. The student will review various types of nozzles and their correct operating pressures. The student, as an individual, will perform priming a pump and establish a water supply from draft. The student will then flow multiple hose lines at their correct nozzle pressure. In groups, students will be given a scenario, the students will required to establish a water supply from draft, calculate the correct pump discharge pressure and establish the desired flow. In groups, students will perform the procedure of flowing a hose line from the booster tank and switching over to draft and then re-establishing the hose stream. Primary consideration for this evolution will always be the safety of an interior hose team. As a group, the students will be introduced to transferring water between multiple dump tanks.
