The 4th annual Great Plains Social Studies Workshop is open to all current, future, and former social studies educators. The 4th annual Great Plains Social Studies Conference is open to all current, future, and former social studies educators and is an opportunity to learn effective teaching methods as well as to network with other social studies professionals from around the region. We are a regional affiliate of the North Dakota Council for Social Studies as well as the National Council for Social Studies and our we are comprised of educators throughout the state of North Dakota. The doors will open at 7:30am with coffee and light refreshments available. Following the opening message at 8:00am, the first breakout session begins at 8:15. The theme for this year's conference is literacy in the social studies classroom and we will provide a variety of sessions offering strategies and tips for successfully incorporating literacy skills into your curriculum but we will also provide a variety of other sessions for you to attend as well. The schedule of breakout sessions will be made available once it is finalized. In addition to the breakout sessions, there will be display tables offering resources and ideas from regional groups who are affiliated with social studies and education. There will also be door prizes, a book/resource exchange, an update on the NCSS in North Dakota, and, of course, a chance to meet and network with colleagues from across the state. The Great Plains Social Studies Council (GPSSC) is a local chapter of the North Dakota Council for Social Studies and is comprised of current, former,  and future social studies educators from the upper Midwest who share a desire to collaborate on ideas and strategies to effectively engage and educate students to ensure that they become proficient at critical thinking skills and make informed and rational choices as citizens in a culturally diverse democracy.   The GPSSC is an affiliate of the National Council for the Social Studies and the North Dakota Council for the Social Studies.
