An introduction to the JET Variable Speed Vertical Mill The vertical milling machine is a precision tool used for shaping and fabrication by the removal of stock, typically from metallic work pieces. Plastics and other materials can also be machined on the mill depending upon tooling and material. Mill machining and material removal is typically made by a rotary cutter held in a spindle. Cutting options are more sophisticated and variable than a drill press by virtue of a moveable table and/or vise (x and y-axes) and vertical spindle movement (z-axis). Students will learn the ins and outs of the vertical milling machine - from speed selection to using the digital readout to changing end mills and securing work needed to accurately machine parts. Students will cut, drill, then surface metal. Please Note: This is a 3 hour class on Friday's from 11:00am - 2:00pm. Location: MaketoryMandatory Safety Equipment: Safety Glasses (Maketory has pairs available at the facility if you do not own any). Closed-toed shoes, full length pants and short sleeves. Pull back hair, remove all jewelry, and do not wear gloves.Advisable but not required: Hearing protectionMinimum Age: 18, or 15 or older if accompanied by an adultIf class is sold out and you have a group interested, please contact us directly to coordinate a new date. We require at least 3 participants to run the course. In the event we do not reach 3 participants we will reach out to reschedule or issue a refund, whichever you prefer. Tickets are nonrefundable (unless class is cancelled) and can not be used for another date.Maketory is a membership based facility.
