Description

Join the sons and daughters of Ora-Ekpen for their in-person annual reunion featuring Nigerian culture, cuisine, music, and raffle prizes. The national president and members of Ora-Ekpen Association USA, Inc., (OAU) cordially invite you to their in-person national convention and reunion in Atlanta, GA. Ora-Ekpen consist of the following six (6) clans in Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria who are direct descendants of Oba Ozolua (King of the Benin Empire): Ohia, Ovbiokhuarin, Evbiobe (Sabongida-Ora), Uhonmora, Oke-Ora, and Eme-Ora. Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria was created from the defunct Bendel State on the August 27, 1991, with headquarters in the town of Sabongida-Ora. The population of Owan West Local Government Area is approximately 100,000. About 70 percent of the population of Ora are youths and approximately 60 percent of the youths are unemployed. Also, about 35 percent of Ora youths are university and poly-technic graduates. The constant news from home about youth clashes, disputes, unrest, kidnappings, wanton destruction of property, and fatalities is causing tension, unrest, closure of businesses, and community activities. The absence of an enabling environment, lack of opportunities, lack of direction and focus of many Ora youths has created a generation of youths that are idle and disoriented from reality. To address the menace and idleness of Ora youths, Ora-Ekpen Association USA, Inc., created a $50,000 Ora-Ekpen Youth Development Fund (OYDF), designed to assist up to 100 Ora youths ($500 investment per youth) to create a roadmap to boost economic activities, entrepreneurial skills, job creation, and their ultimate wellbeing. This community-wide initiative and collaborative platform also aims to promote economic development and prosperity for Ora youths by encouraging a call to action, commitment, creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, respect, mentorship, social responsibility, and self-reliance. The prevailing status quo is no longer tenable for our youths. Hence we are exploring new and innovative ways of providing a robust, viable, and sustainable means of livelihood for our youths. We must alter traditional procedures or concepts and we need a radical shift that can spark a great deal of change. Proceeds from the national convention will be credited to Ora-Ekpen Youth Development Fund for the benefit Ora youths. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Ora-Ekpen Association USA, Inc.
