Minnetonka Public Schools and the Minnetonka Alumni Association celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding alumni. Please join the Minnetonka Alumni Association as we celebrate the accomplishments of our outstanding alumni and former faculty members on Saturday, October 2 for our alumni awards brunch. The eleventh annual event will be held from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Minnetonka High School. We will proudly honor alumni in following categories:  Distinguished Alumni Award Dr. Joni (Hlavacek) Schwartz '71 - As a professor of Humanities at LaGuardia Community College in New York, Scwartz has spent her career researching, aching and writing about social justice and racial equality. She continuously gives back to the community by supporting Brooklyn’s poor and marginalized communities. John Stanoch '76 - Stanoch served as a judge for Minnesota’s District and State court systems. He has also given back to the community through his work in leadership positions with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Greater Minneapolis YMCA and more. Distinguished Service Award Sharon (Haley) Hermel '65 & Carol (Fischer) Parker '65 - Over the past 15 years, Parker and Hermel have raised over $100,000 to fight Alzheimer’s disease in honor of their classmate and close friend, Julie Webster. They are also dedicated organizers of alumni reunions that have kept the MHS Class of 1965 close for years. Young Alumni Award Brittney Fagerlee '10 - Fagerlee received the Champion of the Year award from Best Buddies, a program helping individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities connect to their community. She is an assistant at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Beehive Memory Care Center, where she spreads friendliness and positivity to residents. Skippers Hall of Fame Mark "Lunch" McKenzie - After success with the MHS baseball team, McKenzie returned to coach the Skippers and led the team to win numerous conferences, as well as section and state tournaments. He later had a successful career with USA Baseball, training Olympic and Junior Olympic coaches and coaching his own national team.To review past Minnetonka Alumni Association Award Winners, click here. The MAA includes graduates of Minnetonka High School, Excelsior High School and Deephaven High School, non-graduates who attended those high schools for at least one year and all present and former members of the faculty, administration and school board.
