SALEM, MA — A Beverly man who was found shot dead in a car on Jefferson Avenue early Thursday afternoon was the victim of an apparent suicide, according to Salem police. Police said they responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound in a parked car and found the 38-year-old dead from a single gunshot to the head. Police said they are investigating, but no foul play is suspected. This was the second apparent suicide in public in the city in the past three days after police said a man jumped from the fourth floor of the Bridge Street MBTA parking garage and died from his injuries. Salem police ask anyone in crisis, or if you know of anyone in crisis who is considering suicide, to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or call 911 for immediate assistance.
