San Diego County Students Win Sustainability College Scholarships

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Five college-bound students in San Diego County were awarded scholarships through Wheelhouse Credit Union's Sustainability College Scholarship Program, the credit union announced this week. The students each won $1,000 for demonstrating leadership, public service, and a desire to make a sustainable difference in their schools and communities, according to Wheelhouse. "Our core commitment to sustainability extends to ensuring we are supporting our next generation of environmental champions who share our passion to protect our natural resources and help our beautiful city thrive," said Lisa Paul-Hill, president and CEO of Wheelhouse. The 2021 Wheelhouse Sustainability College Scholarship recipients are: Olivia Barman City: San DiegoSchool: University City High SchoolCollege Attending: University of California, BerkeleySara Cortes City: El CajonSchool: Granite Hills High SchoolCollege Attending: University of California, Los AngelesBennett Hochner City: CarlsbadSchool: Sage Creek High SchoolCollege Attending: University of Southern CaliforniaAngelica Kamahi City: El CajonSchool: Granite Hills High SchoolCollege Attending: San Diego State UniversityAndrea Orozco City: Chula VistaSchool: Caste Park High SchoolCollege Attending: University of Southern California Wheelhouse's Sustainability College Scholarship Program was created in 2005 to recognize conscientious high school leaders in the county. Since the creation of the program, Wheelhouse has awarded $96,000 in scholarships, according to the credit union. "We are honored to support these local trailblazers who are leading the way in their mission to promote sustainability in their communities," Paul-Hill said.
