Description

PLAINFIELD, IL — Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced an executive order requiring students and staff in schools to wear masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after, Plainfield School District 202 said it will comply with the mandate in its schools. "District 202 will comply with the governor's Executive Order to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students, staff, families, and the community," Superintendent of Schools Lane Abrell said in a statement. The district's mask policy has changed a few times over the course of the summer. Before Pritzker's announcement Wednesday, the district's mask-optional policy was under review. When the district released its back-to-school plan in June, masks were required indoors for students and staff. Abrell said district officials will also share more details and back-to-school plans next week ahead of students' first day back Aug. 18. Should guidance change in the future, "we will adjust our opening plan, as needed or required."
