PITTSBURGH, PA — A Downtown Pittsburgh restaurant has reopened after being closed for a day this week because of numerous health violations. On Tuesday, an Allegheny County Health Department inspection at Papa Allen's Pizza on Smithfield Street found food in "unsound condition," improper cold food storage, inadequate and insufficient refrigeration, lack of a food probe thermometer, inadequate cleaning and sanitizing, insufficient hand washing facilities, inadequate pest management, improper storage of toxic items and lack of a certified food protection manager. The restaurant was shut down, but was permitted to reopen after a re-inspection on Wednesday, health department officials said. A compliance check will occur within 30 days.
