ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a dealership burglary, a man with a sledgehammer, a pornographic video threat, a bike-car collision, a dog bite and an attempted scam, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Dealership Burglary Elmhurst Auto Group, 466 W. Lake St., was burglarized from 3:15 a.m. to 3:45 a.m. Tuesday. It was reported to police a little more than two hours later. Two suspects forced entry into both buildings through the service garage. Surveillance video showed the suspects entering the buildings and tampering with vehicles. The suspects eventually took a vehicle from the rear used lot and left. Man with sledgehammer A man said a suspect carrying a sledgehammer smashed the driver's side windows of his Dodge Challenger about 3 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Cedar Avenue. The suspect did not access the vehicle. Pornographic video threat A resident in the 500 block of East Park Avenue told police Wednesday that he received an email telling him to wire money or the suspect would send out a pornographic video of him. The resident was advised to cease all contact with the suspect and change his social media passwords. Bike-car collision A bicyclist suffered minor injuries about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near Third and York when he collided with a car. The driver stopped and checked on the bicyclist, who said he was fine. The driver left. The police considered the driver a suspect, described as a Hispanic female, 60 years old, short in stature, having long hair and wearing a red sweater. Business burglary Three men entered an unsecured gate and removed two landscaping vehicles, containing several pieces of equipment, about 11 p.m. Sunday at 915 S. Riverside Drive. Video surveillance showed the men entering from the south side of the lot. The victim was Noe's Landscaping. The case is pending an investigation. Dog bite A resident in the 400 block of Arlington Avenue told police that she was bitten on the shin and thigh by a neighbor's dog while mowing her lawn Thursday. Medics took the woman to the hospital. A copy of the animal bite report was sent to DuPage County Animal Control. Attempted scam Doti Liquors, 104 E. Fullerton Ave., received a call about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday soliciting donations. The store believed the request for money came from the Elmhurst Fire Department. While picking up the check, a suspect stated he did not work for the local department, but works with other departments to make children's magazines. An investigation is pending. Man falls A man fell about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near First and Addison. The man said he tripped on the sidewalk, causing a severe cut to his lip. Medics arrived and took the man to Elmhurst Hospital. Trespassing A person who said he owns a house under construction in the 400 block of Hill Avenue told police that another person was on his property taking measurements near the utility box about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The second person was instructed to stay off the property and was served a no-trespassing notice. Egging Three cars were egged overnight Sunday in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue. Threatening messages A resident in the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue told police he received threatening messages from an unknown phone number Monday. Suspect car An officer saw a car speeding east on North Avenue about 4 a.m. Wednesday after the officer heard about the burglary of a liquor store in Villa Park. The officer tried to stop the car, a Mercedes-Benz GLK, but the driver sped away, heading eastbound on Interstate 290. The vehicle was confirmed to have been involved in the Villa Park burglary as well as an attempted burglary of a liquor store in Bellwood, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. Stolen bike A 26-inch Nishiki Men's Pueblo mountain bike was stolen between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Indiana Street. It was in a detached garage. Drugs Charles Hunter Jr., 24, of Plainfield, was arrested about 11 p.m. Wednesday at Butterfield and Cadwell on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstructing identification, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver, operating an uninsured vehicle and no seat belt. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, a search of his car yielded both cocaine and marijuana. He also was accused of giving a false name. Driving violations Hubert Kazimie Szpik, 28, of Chicago, was arrested about 8 a.m. Monday at Third and Glade on charges of aggravated driving with a suspended license and disobeying a traffic control device. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. Cynthia Alila, 30, of Berwyn, was cited about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at York and Brush Hill on charges of driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
