Description
I have a friend, a rice farmer who owns 200 acres
Every year, he goes through the same ritual of getting all his equipment running, smoothing fields, plant seed, water, fertilize and hope for mild weather and a decent crop.
If he gets a good crop and prices are right, he can pocket about $80,000 at the end of the year, after all expenses.
Last year, he was offered $60,000 to not farm, so the State of California could give his irrigation water to someone else.
He took it. Basically "sold" his allotment of water for $60,000 and didn't have to lift a finger.
I'd have done the same thing if it were me.
