Come out and enjoy a FREE, interactive drum performance at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens are inviting all park guests and visitors to a free, interactive drum circle as a part of "WELLderness: An Outdoor Wellness Series" at the park. Who: Anyone can register to sit in on this live performance! What: A free, interactive performance by the Bele Bele Rhythm Collective- "Sisterhood of the Drum". We encourage you to bring a drum or other instrument to participate in the music-making experience (no experience necessary). Grab a seat and enjoy! When: Friday, August 6, 2021 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm Where: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, DC 20019 What to Bring: reusable water bottle, sun protection, dance moves (you will want to get up and groove), **Masks are optional for all participating. However, space remains limited to allow for social distancing among attendees and other park visitors.** About the performer: The Bele Bele Rhythm Collective is an intergenerational group of women from DC and surrounding areas who have come together to form a sisterhood of the drum. Founded in 2008 and led by "Drumlady" Kristen Arant, the BBRC performs tightly sewn compositions of polyrhythms on West African dun-un and djembe drums, complete with exciting breaks, contagious songs, and dancing. The BBRC performs to celebrate unity and diversity, and to spread the joy and healing power of West African drumming to the community at-large.
