Join us in the eTown cafe at eTown Hall for Songwriters In-the-Round! A showcase of 4 singer-songwriters taking turns sharing their songs. Local original music in a curated community experience, accompanied by a new beverage showcase at eTown’s bar. The Artists: Jayme Stone: Jayme Stone is a musician, composer, instigator, producer, and educator. On any given day, you might find him in his studio reworking a little-known hymn learned from a field recording, producing a session with musicians from Bamako or New York, creating experimental soundscapes, or tucking his kids in on time so he can get back to writing the next verse of a new song. Stone, a “consummate team player” (Downbeat), has developed a process of trawling for understudied sounds in the more arcane corners of the world to see how they’ll land in his musical universe. His many collaborators have included Margaret Glaspy, Moira Smiley, Tim O’Brien, Bruce Molsky, Julian Lage, Dom Flemons, Bassekou Kouyate, and more. Guided by his own aesthetic compass and a desire to let his collaborators “make the sounds that only they know how to make”, he has made a surprise album every two or three years—seven total. Albums like Africa to Appalachia, a polyrhythmic tale of two continents; the Lomax Project, which re-imagines songs collected by American folklorist Alan Lomax; and most recently, Folklife, a companion album to the latter that treats old field recordings not as time capsules, but as heirloom seeds planted in modern soil. It’s for this reason that Stone has also been called “a musical evangelist” who “loves using fresh approaches that get people hooked on wider musical traditions” (Edmonton Journal). Career highlights for Stone include winning two Juno Awards, three Canadian Folk Music Awards; being featured on NPR, BBC, and the CBC; and performing thousands of concerts at places like the Lincoln and Kennedy Centers, Library of Congress, Bumbershoot, Rockygrass, Celtic Connections, Vancouver Folk Festival, Lotus Festival, Chicago World Music Festival, Montréal Jazz Festival, and more. Carolyn Hunter: Carolyn Hunter is a dreamweaver. A determined creator. Described by many as having the ‘voice of an angel’ she has toured the world sharing stages with Lang Lang, Karla Bonoff, The Lil Smokies, The Good Lovelies, and many more. After graduating from UCLA’s School of Theater Film and Televisions she taught herself guitar and began to pursue life as a folk-singer. On a small surf island in the southeast, Carolyn founded folk-rock band “The Fam Band” and later, moving back West to Colorado, co-founded indie-folk band “The Heartstring Hunters” nominated by Denver Westword for “Best Folk Band.” Currently residing in Boulder, Colorado, Carolyn is working on a new synth-pop album “Lovelight” to be released Fall 2021 with Wolf Den Records. Her first single “Felt Like Love” was just released this July and is available on all streaming platforms. She is working with producer Julian Peterson, out of Wolf Den Studios in Longmont, CO harnessing a fresh, dreampop sound. Christine Donaldson: Christine is a skilled and eclectic songwriter with a timeless sound. She grew up in California playing many genres of music, including jazz, R&B, bluegrass, and folk, where her passion for singing and guitar accompaniment paved the way for a spot in the SFJAZZ High School All-Star Band as a teenager. Christine went on to study jazz performance and music business at the University of Southern California where she began writing and performing her original music at clubs in Los Angeles. She fell in love with music and skiing both at a very early age, and her original music is heavily influenced by her connection with nature. A newcomer to Boulder, Christine just released her newest album, Time Machine, in February and is now working on her next project. Spencer Handley: Spencer is a guitarist and songwriter who finds his unique sound at the intersections of Folk, Jazz and Deliciousness. A trained jazz guitar player, he has trained under artists like Julian Lage, Chris Eldridge, Margaret Glaspy, and Becca Stevens. Spending several years of his life as a nomadic student of music, he has studied world music and folk traditions from all over the world. He has collaborated with artists like Pomplamoose and the ever-wonderful Christine Donaldson. His alter ego is that of a computer nerd and software engineer. He currently runs one of the most forward thinking Music Education Technology companies called Sonora and has served as a Product Engineering Leader at Patreon, where he built technology that helps artists thrive. He’s a dog person, the dress was definitely blue, and he proudly wore meggings almost every day of quarantine. eTown’s mission is to educate, entertain and inspire a diverse audience, through music and conversation, to create a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable world. eTown Hall is located in the heart of downtown Boulder, Colorado. A world-class performance venue, full service recording studio and community center, eTown Hall is also home to the famous eTown radio show. A non-profit organization since 1991, eTown has been committed to environmental education and “doing the right thing.” This building, converted from an old church facility, is quite possibly the greenest music and media center in Colorado! eTown Hall is unique – not another venue in the country like it. It’s recycled (a former church), rebuilt (a total renovation from the ground up), renovated (state of the art sound systems, recording studio) repurposed (a green building that makes its own solar power, has extremely efficient heating and cooling, used recycled and repurposed materials in the renovation) and reinvigorated (the community LOVES eTown Hall!) . eTown Hall Refund and Exchange Policy: eTown does not provide refunds or exchanges for any ticket purchases. If you have further questions, please call us at 303-443-8696, ext. 100. When purchasing a ticket to an event at eTown Hall, you will be automatically signed up for the eTown mailing list.
