Description

Join a discussion with author James B. Jones about Tennessee's hidden history of prostitution, dueling, and moonshining. Join public historian and author James B. Jones for a discussion of lost or hidden aspects of Tennessee history related to such topics as prostitution, dueling, and moonshining. Historians of the Volunteer State's past have overlooked these stories in favor of political, biographical, economic, and war-time history. This presentation and the new book Troubled Times in Tennessee offer a glimpse at unheralded historical stories, with coverage given to topics once considered taboo. Books will be available for purchase and signing. James B. Jones is a retired public historian who has recently retired after thirty-five years of service to the Tennessee Historical Commission and State Historic Preservation Office based in Nashville. Jones is well versed in the history of Tennessee and its built environment; knowledge which informs the countless articles and six books he has written, often sharing stories seldom covered in conventional narratives.
