PLAINVIEW, NY — A dangerous zombie home in Plainview was demolished by the Town of Oyster Bay earlier this week. The home had sat abandoned for years, and had fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair. The house was the 22nd one that has been demolished since the town created its Quality of Life Taske Force less than four years ago. "Protecting our suburban quality of life is a top priority for the town board," said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "No community should be forced to deal with unmaintained and dangerous eyesores that serve as havens for swatters, rodents and other such problems. We will continue to make way for new families by tearing down zombie homes and charging banks or homeowners for the demolition costs due to long-term lack of maintenance." The town's Code Enforcement officers had been to the house numerous times due to the lack of maintenance. The home had been abandoned for more than a decade and had multiple holes in the roof, exposing the interior to the elements. The exposure created mold throughout the building and rotted the floors and joists. In recent years, an extension of the home was demolished after it had collapsed in on itself.
