Description
NORTHPORT, NY — Roadie, a 2-year-old cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week.
"Roadie was found by a lovely lady that dedicates her days to feeding cat colonies," Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, said. "It is a selfless job, and many times you could go to the same colony for months and since the cats are feral, they will never let you pet them. Occasionally, one kitty will touch your heart with their affection, and sadness and confusion of how and why they are there. Roadie was one of those unlucky ones."
Roadie might have once been a domesticated cat that was abandoned at the colony, Wild said. He was loving and friendly while being fed.
"It was decided he did not deserve to be left behind because although he was friendly, he seemed lonely and frightened," Wild said. "Once in our rescue, we discovered how wonderful he was. He purrs when being spoken to and loves long, slow pets."
Roadie is a polydactyl cat and has an extra big toe as a result.
"His paws are adorable, and he looks as if he is wearing mittens," Wild said. "If you adopt Roadie, aside from having a beautiful cat that will for always be grateful, there is one added benefit; Polydactyl cats are considered good luck!"
