MALDEN, MA — The following letter was submitted by Malden Councillor At Large Debbie DeMaria. The definition of the word RERUN is "a program or movie that has already been shown before." The nostalgia of a rerun give us a reminder of days gone by, maybe even offering us a euphoric feeling of what can still be. But last evening, I experienced a DEBUT. It was such a pleasure introducing Michelle Luong, candidate for City Council. The excitement in the air was electric and the anticipated speech was delivered with perfection; a new plan, a new vision, continuously connected to Malden, a proven team collaborator, a true resident and an honest leader. The comparison of both feelings, while similarly enjoyable, plays out very differently in politics. We must understand that progress is looking forward, not backwards. While we might have learned from what was, the future lies in what can be! As we begin August, Malden's local elections are heating up. I applaud the fresh new candidates that are committed to public service and have qualified to be on the ballot. What is concerning to me are the RERUNS. In Wards 4, 7, and even the At-Large race; we see their return. How can we expect growth and positive change without the players changing? The choice is yours on November 2nd. Looking through the front windshield always yields for a better view than peering into the rearview mirror. Debbie DeMariaCouncillor At Large2011-2021
