Brush Fire Prompts Evacuations In Valley Center

VALLEY CENTER, CA — A brush fire prompted evacuations and threatened structures Wednesday afternoon in northern San Diego County. The blaze, called the Castle Fire, sparked off of Old Castle Road in the community of Valley Center. The flames burned three acres and threatened structures before crews stopped the spread, according to Cal Fire San Diego and Valley Center Fire Protection District. No structural damage was reported. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department issued an evacuation order for the area of Lilac Road and Robles Lane. A temporary evacuation point was established at Lilac Elementary School at 30109 Lilac Road. The evacuation order was later lifted and the temporary evacuation point was closed. #CastleFire [Update] The forward rate of spread has been stopped at three acres.
