Description
PLAINFIELD, IL — Aramark, Plainfield District 202's contracted food service provider, will provide free breakfast and lunch to all interested students this upcoming school year, officials announced Wednesday.
As they return to full-time, in-person school Aug. 18, all K-12 students are automatically eligible to get free breakfast and lunch each school day.
The district, along with Aramark, began offering free meals amid shutdowns in March 2020. To date, staff has served more than 2.4 million meals to students in the district, according to officials.
"This is an indication that the program is needed for a myriad of reasons — financial, emotional, or scheduling as parents return to work," Tony Arbogast, the district's assistant superintendent of business and operations, said in a statement.
The meals are paid for by the United States Department of Agriculture, according to Tony Arbogast, the district's assistant superintendent of business and operations.
The district won't offer a la carte items once school starts to alleviate logistical challenges and so students can avoid long lines, according to a news release. Elementary school students will have two meal options and middle and high school students will have three choices.
A menu of breakfast and lunch offerings can be found here, helpful for students with allergies or dietary restrictions.
More details about the initiative can be found by calling Drio Turcios at 815-577-4052 or Tamara Castaneda at 815-436-6270.
