PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island's top elected officials joined President Joe Biden and other leaders across the country in calling for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign, following the results of an investigation into reported sexual misconduct.
Gov. Dan McKee joined a coalition of three other governors — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont — in a join statement issued Tuesday night.
"We are appalled at the findings of the independent investigation by the New York Attorney General," the statement read. "Governor Cuomo should resign from office."
Several other top Democrats in Rhode Island echoed the governors' statement.
"[Tuesday's] findings by NY Attorney General Letitia James shows a disturbing pattern of sexual harassment by Governor Andrew Cuomo," Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea tweeted. "Governor Cuomo should immediately resign."
Treasurer Seth Magaziner said Cuomo "clearly violated" the standard of professionalism required in workplaces.
"Women deserve to work in an environment free of harassment, and leaders of integrity must strive to build a workplace where everyone is respected and safe," Magaziner said. "I join President Biden and others in calling for his resignation."
