Police are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle that struck an ambulance as it was responding to a call in Gurnee and then fled the scene Sunday evening.
The Gurnee Police Department said they responded around 7:45 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Grand Avenue and Fuller Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the crash involved a Gurnee Fire Department ambulance.
Witnesses told police that a black Chevrolet SUV was traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue when it crossed the center median and side-swiped the ambulance.
The ambulance was traveling westbound on Grand Avenue with lights and sirens activated while en route to an emergency call, Gaylor said.
The Chevrolet fled the scene eastbound before police arrived. There were no injuries reported at the crash scene.

Officers checked the area for the Chevrolet and located the vehicle behind a shopping complex at the intersection of Route 21 and Washington Street.
The vehicle was abandoned, Gaylor said. Officers searched the area utilizing a canine unit but were unable to locate the vehicle's occupants.
Further investigation into the crash showed the Chevrolet was registered as stolen by the Kenosha, Wisconsin Police Department. The case remains under investigation.
