Back-To-The-Books Scholarships and the 2021 Online Fundraiser

The Downers Grove Area Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded three Back-To-The-Books scholarships/grants in the Fall of 2020. AAUW wishes to congratulate them on their accomplishments. Alexandra Wirtas of Downers Grove attends Rush University and is earning her MSN in Nursing.Becky Joy Kristula of Westmont attends National Lewis University and is earning her Masters of Business Administration.Tara Schmidt of Downers Grove attends Elmhurst University and is earning her MS in Data Science. Since our first award in 1987, we have awarded 73 scholarships and grants for a total of $120,250. In 2020, our Annual Used Book Sale, which through the work of our membership and volunteers provides the funds for the scholarships and grants, was cancelled for the first time due to the pandemic. Through an online appeal and personal donations, our branch membership generously donated the funds towards the 2020 Back-to-the-Books awards. We are once again faced with the cancellation of our Annual Used Book Sale due to complications caused by the pandemic. Help us continue to fulfill our mission to provide local scholarships this fall to deserving women in Downers Grove, Darien, Lisle, Westmont, & Woodridge and contribute to National AAUW's Greatest Needs Fund by making a monetary donation through our online fundraiser. Consider how much you have spent at our sale in the past as you think about making a donation. Our goal this year is to raise $6,250, 80% for local scholarships and 20% for our annual donation to National AAUW. Please click here to donate with a credit card.
