Art In The Park Makes A Comeback After Pandemic Hiatus

MARIETTA, GA — The COVID-19 pandemic canceled a slew of Marietta's beloved events, including Art in the Park. But this Labor Day weekend, the event will make a comeback after a yearlong hiatus, city officials announced. More than 150 fine art booths will be featured at the outdoor event at Glover Park, which also offers live music, children's activities and food from local restaurants. The festival is scheduled Sept. 4-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Visitors can purchase watercolors, acrylic, oil, pastel, woodworking, glass, photography, textiles and jewelry in fine metals and precious stones from the featured artists, a news release said. Some artists will even offer demonstrations during the event for a behind-the-scenes look at how certain pieces are made. Additionally, the children's Chalk Spot — sponsored by The Marietta Local and slated for Saturday, Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — will be displayed throughout the festival and offers participants an opportunity to create sidewalk art. It costs $10 per person to participate, which includes a box of chalk and coupons from local businesses while supplies last. All proceeds will benefit the Marietta High School Visual Arts Department. There will also be a children's art alley for kids attending the festival, which is a free, interactive "make and take" area on Atlanta Street at the south side of the park. Free on-site parking will be available throughout the Marietta Square. Additional parking will be open in the parking decks at Waddell and Lawrence streets.
