I was thinking about the possible "big" pending disasters and how people respond. Over population needs to be on the list because the world population is growing and anyone should be able to understand that we will either run out of resources or enough people will die to prevent running out of resources. Actually, we really don't get a choice because some will certainly not survive without having what they need. Yes, any idiot can see that so I will stop rambling. The "end of oil" is certainly a big economic issue because we use so much of it. Ignoring for a moment that some people don't believe that we can run out of a limited resource, but certainly if we could that would be a big problem. Global warming is also a big problem as some of us have already been unable to survive record temperatures. Again, obvious that with enough increase many more will expire. The effect of climate change on agriculture and flooding of coastal locations is part of the concern. Pandemics should be on the list. Most of the major problems are over-population related, but as long as we are crowded enough for disease to quickly spread, we are in danger of a pandemic. Again, not too much imagination is required to understand that a disease could arise that will make covid look like fun times. Pollution is on the list. Not one of the really big items because it tends to kill people at a slower and rate. But still toxic drinking water that might clip years from peoples lives is certainly an issue that should be considered a problem. I will round off the list with the "isms". These are the things people do to each other that lead to harm. Racism, nationalism (when it is not just about waving a flag), and the general class of human rights that varies from the right to not be tortured to a right of equality and fair laws. I would include public health care with this because a world that concludes it is okay to have some toxins because the it improves the economy for all -- yet fails to provide medical care for the ones that loose that lottery is simply harvesting some lives for the benefit of others. Now coming to the point. We have two major thoughts in politics that we call conservative and liberal. In general, liberals are in favor of eliminating or reducing the above big problems. On the other hand, conservative thought seems to first favor not believing in a particular problem. They also tend to be a major cause of the problem -- A simple example being which group will have five or more children and will oppose the availability of birth control? Rather than connect all the dots, I will leave it up the the reader. And yes, one type of reader will be able to easily figure it out and the other will simple retreat into a set of standard excuses they have been provided with.
