Do you know anything about electric bikes?

I have an adult tricycle that I fitted with an electric front wheel. It has been working great, then this weekend, it just stopped. The battery gauge shows that it's almost empty no matter how long I keep it on charge. I had ordered a new battery and it came today. I know it is fully charge, but when I hooked it up, the gauge still showed that it is nearly empty. This leads me to believe that the problem is not the battery. there has to be a short somewhere. I need someone to help me figure out how to fix it. My tricycle is my main mode of transportation. It's my freedom. You may have seen me and my little dog riding up and down Broad St. on my way to or from Publix or Walmart. Please help! Thanks Terry
