Overview House of worship in Lexington, Massachusetts is seeking an experienced custodian to join our maintenance team to assist in creating a clean, orderly, and safe environment by performing a wide variety of cleaning and maintenance activities. The custodian should be comfortable working independently, have good judgement and able to prioritize their duties appropriately in a fast-paced environment. Must have prior experience working in a similar environment and be customer and service oriented. Shifts range from weekday evenings from 5PM to 10ish, some weekend evening and/or days may be needed, flexibility in your work schedule is key. Responsibilities for the position: • The ability to read and write and decipher set-up diagrams, follow written instructions, and evaluate complex concepts in room set-ups. • Ability to set-up and breakdown worship, functions and school events throughout the facility. • Able to manage multiple priorities, managing events, School dinners, or worship Services, or supervising caterers, and group meetings while completing the daily cleaning for the building. • Assist with community dinners, running dish machine, makes coffee, and helps with the logistics of the event. • Able to follow written instructions and diagrams for event layouts. • Supports Worship Services and events by checking and setting up audio equipment, microphones, speakers, and projectors/screens. • Provides support to Temple’s staff and congregants in a helpful and friendly manner. • Performs nightly cleaning while managing multiple activities taking place in the building. • Maintains floors in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and assists annually to refinish floors using a power scrubber. • Empty and clean trash receptacles, compost and collect recycling. • Clean, sanitize, and re-supply bathrooms. • Clean and service custodial equipment as needed. • Perform minor repairs on furniture, buildings, and equipment. • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the manager. • Secures building by locking windows, and doors and closes the building at the end of the night shift. • Ensure walks and entry ways are clear of snow and not slippery. Qualifications for Custodian • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. • Previous custodial experience preferred. • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Comfortable squatting, twisting, bending, and kneeling while using tools and performing maintenance tasks. • Possess working knowledge of the methods, techniques, and safety protocols used in commercial settings. • Familiar with cleaning concepts and methods used in a commercial environment. • Must have a clean Cori background check and have your own transportation and must have the ability to speak, read and write English. • Pay is commensurate with experience • All employees should be vaccinated and masks are required.
