Description

Learn geographic history, how climate change will impact DC, and what is being done to prepare. You'll never see DC the same again!!! Even though we are 85 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, DC is at increasing risk of tidal flooding. With sea levels rising and our portion of the Chesapeake Basin “settling,” Washington DC is projected to see a dramatic increase in tidal flooding in the next 10 – 25 years. In fact, DC is predicted to experience tidal flooding twice as bad as any city along the East Coast! Join Jeff Miller, the DC Cycling Concierge for a fascinating and enlightening ride around many of DC’s landmarks and thoroughfares that exist where they do because of our hydrological and geographic history and learn how much of DC is at significant risk due to climate change. On this 3-hour bike tour we will go rollin’ along the rivers, canal ways and flood prone areas of our great city, which also happen to be some of the more scenic and vibrant neighborhoods. The 10-mile ride will include some city streets, but the route will be mostly on streets with bike lanes, bike trails, and even a few sidewalks (where it is legal to do so) and it will include several stops. All bike types welcome, but if you have a choice bring your more comfortable ride with regular pedals (clipless pedals may not be as fun given all the stops and sites we'll be checking out). The ride will be capped at 20 people max so please RSVP today! I love cycling and I love DC and I love to show my guests how biking is the best way to see and explore the history and sites. The themes of my tours are a way to see this great city and region in a slightly different way, to delve deeper, and to have some great discussions of how our history relates to today. I love leading these tours by bike because we can see so much more than you can in any other type of tour. Yes, biking is the best way to explore DC, but I also revel in the fun of sharing the history and wild back stories to many of the sites I share with my guests. I hope to see you on this ride!
