Description

RESIST Benefit Show for Mutual Aid South King County RIZE's first annual RESIST event raised money in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and in response to the horrific actions by POTUS and his administration against asylum seekers. All of the proceeds from the event went to the Northwest Immigrants Rights Project here in Washington. NWIRP provides free legal representation for those detained at the Detention Center in Tacoma — which is the third-largest immigration detention center in the country. More recently, the coronavirus pandemic has impacted sick & disabled, immunocompromised, undocumented, and QTBIPOC in a variety of devastating ways. Black and Latinx people have been nearly three times as likely to contract COVID-19 than white people and twice as likely to die from the virus. Unemployment has soared to historic levels, rendering millions of people unable to afford food, rent, or other basic necessities. During this time, Mutual aid groups like Mutual Aid South King County have worked to meet the needs of these community members most in need through direct cash assistance, food, and other essential needs. With this pandemic continuing to evolve, we want to contribute to protecting our most vulnerable communities and those who are doing that work so, all proceeds from this event will go to Mutual Aid South King County. Mutual aid supports survivors, sick & disabled, immunocompromised, undocumented, and QTBIPOC folx in South King County & Eastside. If attendees bring any of the things on the mutual aid need list they get a raffle ticket and will be entered in to win several prizes.
