Description

Math clubs meet to explore math concepts and how and why math works in the real world. Each week we will focus on a different skill. Summer should be about having FUN. More than ever, kids need to try new things, explore, learn in the real world, and meet and interact with friends. Summer Learning Clubs do just that. Students will directly interact with their peers and teachers with a focus on real life learning. Small group instruction will be provided in a 1:6 teacher- to- student ratio facilitated by experienced K-8 certified teachers. Math clubs meet to explore math concepts. Each week we will look deeply at math stories to explore the why and how math works. We will use problem solving to teach math skills. Each session a real world problem will be posed to the group, then students will work collaboratively to develop strategies and multiple models to find solutions to the problem. Through discussion students will articulate their understanding of the math involved. Additional problems will be provided to work on following the session. On Wednesday, August 18, your child entering second grade in fall will learn about data as it applies to real world problem-solving. Because we are able to admit a limited number of students, you will be charged a deposit of $25 upon registration. Your deposit will be refunded less credit card processing fees upon attendance or notification of inability to attend sent to [email protected] or 203.291.4815 by 10 am on Wednesday, August 11. For those unable to come to the library for class, there is an option to log in from home. Please select from your ticket options carefully. The Summer Learning Clubs are made possible by the continuing generosity of Roz and Bud Siegel.
