Learn How to Make Your Own Incense Cones! Come out to Bizarre Bazaar this Sunday, August 8th at 3pm, and join Neta Levinson, of Rituals and Art, to learn & connect with an ancient art: making incense. From Neta: "The making and burning of incense is a practice that has accompanied humans for thousands of years. The smell of the smoke has aromatherapeutic characteristics that offer a sense of peace and homey-ness. The action of filling a space with the sacredness of smoke can be done with any simple dried herb. There are so many ways to make incense and to burn it, from sticks, cones and bundles to lightning it with fire or placing resin on charcoal. Any and all of these forms are equally valid. In this demo we will be making cones using dried herb material and an herbal binder. The high demand of commercial incense has caused several common incense plants to be produced and used in disrespectful quantities towards nature. If we begin to make our own incenses using the plants that widely grow near us we will be helping the planet and ourselves." Your $5 contribution will include the incense-making lesson, take-home instructions, and you will leave with 5 incense cones made by your own hands. Please bring a small tupperware from home (the incense will need to continue drying). There will be extra materials & instructions available for purchase, if you wish to bring the experience home and share your new knowledge with friends and family! Rituals and Art is an exploration of rituals through art-making for the transformation of the everyday routine into a sacred adventure. Bizarre Baazar is a free, outdoor community gathering space & market for hand-made items. It is open from 1 - 5pm in the backyard of 4154 N. Tripp Ave. All people are invited to come through!
