The 1st Annual Soybean Firefighter Challenge will be held Saturday, September 4th from 9AM-1PM. Watch the Soybean FireFighter Challenge Video The 1st annual Soybean Firefighter Challenge is hosted by the City of Martin Fire Department in coordination with the Tennessee Soybean Festival. This competition features a demanding physical challenge where active firefighters and teams compete for the fastest time. Competition events include hose hoist, forcible entry, hose advance, weighted mobility course, and a victim rescue. The primary purpose of the Firefighter Challenge is to promote physical fitness, test work place ability which is an essential part of structural firefighting. Your Official Emergency ID No. is reguired to compete. Competitors must bring their own Turn Out Gear and SCBA to complete the course. All firefighters, both currently employed or retired, who are members of any first responder organizations (EMS or Fire-Rescue) are eligible to compete in the challenge. Competition categories include Individual (running the entire course by one's self) or Team(three-to-five people navigating the course, with each performing one of the specific tasks with the fastest overall time being the winner). Individual Awards: 1st $500 and 2nd $250 Team Awards: 1st $1000 and 2nd $500 Event Date: Saturday, September 4th Competition Time: 9AM -1PM Competition Location: South Lindell St. - Downtown Martin . Spectators can watch for free from the sidewalks and bleachers located in downtown around the course. The area will be clearly marked for safety. Each competitor will receive a t-shirt on competition day ( included in your fee). Any shirts ordered after August 23rd will need to be mailed and will not be available at will call pick up. Categories of entry include: Individual and Teams ( Teams will be no more than 3-5 people) * There will be a max of 40 individual competition slots and 25 team slots Competitors are required to sign a safety waiver at the registration table.
