A 3-concert series featuring acclaimed jazz artists on 4th Saturdays, June-July-Aug 2021, at the Frederick Arts Council's open-air Sky Stage Evenings of live jazz under the stars*, curated and hosted by our friends at Frederick Jazz Festival. Jeff Cosgrove Trio: Praised by the Washington Post, All About Jazz, JAZZ TOYKO, Jazz Journalist Association + DownBeat, the Frederick News Post, for his “open-time creativity and melodic sense” (Gapplegate Music Reviews), drummer Jeff Cosgrove has pursued a unique improvisational path with varied ensembles, including a trio with Matthew Shipp and William Parker (Alternating Current), another with Frank Kimbrough and Martin Wind (Conversations with Owls), and a quartet playing repertory by the late Paul Motian (Motian Sickness). jeffcosgrovemusic.com Alex Parchment: The Alex Parchment Quintet, a traditional jazz ensemble and AP.Chemistry, a musical experiment fusing soul, funk, hip hop, R&B and jazz form a unique but energetic sound. In April, 2020, Alex released his debut album entitled Burnin’ Up, which yielded two placements on the Smooth Jazz Billboard’s Top 30 Chart (“Vibin’ In Time” rising to #1, and “It’s Real” rising to #11 respectively). Alex has had the opportunity to perform on wonderful stages including the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Blues Alley with jazz luminaries Patti Austin, Christian McBride, David Sanborn, Chick Corea, Marion Meadows and more. From "can't stay in your seat" driving beats to lush ballads the Peravon songbook has something for everyone. peravon.com Allison Balanc: A Neo-Soul singer, songwriter, vocal coach and producer born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. In 2007, Allison was signed to the Grammy award-winning label Compound Entertainment; after winning "Neyo's Talent Search". Then again in 2012, the songstress caught the ear of entertainment manager, William "Malachai" Johns. She then won the "Are You the Lipstick Talent Search". Allison is also an 8x Washington Area Music Award nominee including the 2021 Washington Area Music Educator Award. Allison released her first EP, Change of Plans, in 2015. She followed up with her second project, Lost and Found, in 2017. Allison performed her first live debut of the project at the W Hotel DC's POV Live concert series. Her performance became the highest grossing in the series and her company, Allison Balanc Productions began an ongoing relationship with the venue. Subsequently, Allison Balanc Productions has expanded in its offerings, providing creative direction, vocal session work, vocal coaching, songwriting services and production. Allison’s latest work is a series of songs, #SocialDistanceBae; released amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020. She continues to focus on expanding her craft through multiple collaborations with various R&B artists. allisonbalanc.com The Eric Byrd Trio (EBT): pianist/vocalist Eric Byrd, bassist Bhagwan Khalsa, and drummer Alphonso Young, Jr., have traveled the world as enthusiastic ambassadors of jazz. Rooted in swing and be-bop, The Trio also embraces gospel and the blues as core elements of their expansive performance style. The group’s repertoire consists of original compositions and arrangements penned by Mike Kamuf as well as jazz standards and selections from the Great American Songbook. The arrangements cover many styles within the jazz idiom. He leads his own band, The Trey Eley eXperience, and co-leads the urban jazz band, The Jazz Boyz, alongside saxophonist Marcus H. Mitchell.
