BROCKTON, MA — Due to a recent rise in active cases of COVID-19, Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan reinstated the once removed mask mandate for all employees and visitors to city buildings Monday. This change was made public Monday morning via Twitter, as cases of COVID-19 continue to rise due to the delta variant. As of Sunday, Brockton is on alert for rapid rises in cases. According to the town's website, the alert is yellow, meaning there are more than 10 daily active cases. Brockton currently has 11.9 average daily confirmed cases per 100,000. Brockton is not the first town to reinstate face mask announcements, the Provincetown Select Board and Board of Health voted unanimously in an emergency meeting Sunday to reimplement an indoor mask mandate. Provincetown reissued the mask mandate indoors due to a recent cluster that made cases jump to 882 on Thursday last week. Cambridge, Sommerville, Nantucket, and Wellfleet have all issued mask advisories to the public, strongly urging them to wear masks where transmission is likely. Due to the recent rise in active cases of COVID-19, Mayor Robert Sullivan has reinstated the mask mandate at all City buildings.
