Description

Press release from the Belmont Public Library: 2021-08-03 Feel like you've been on your own trying to learn everything at school? As part of Belmont Public Library's growing initiative to create an environment for lifelong learning, we are now offering Mentor Match, a free academic tutoring service offered virtually by Leaders United for Change for grades 6-10. Each registered student will be paired with an academic leader to practice reading, math, science, and whatever other school subjects you need assistance with once a week for one hour. Learn more about Leaders United for Change on their website here. on their website here To register, fill out the form below to begin the matching process. How does mentoring over Zoom work? Your librarian will help you schedule a date and time for a 1-hour weekly session with your mentor. Once a time has been decided, you will be sent a Zoom link for your meeting. At the beginning of your session, you will be greeted by the LUC representative and sent to a Breakout Room where your mentor will be waiting.  Will my student get the same mentor every week? The schedule will depend on your mentor's availability each week. The librarian will help you create a schedule that will work best for both participants. Can a parent hire a mentor? All mentoring done for Mentor Match is free-of-charge. If a parent would like to hire a mentor who is part of the program, they can email Hannah Lee, the YA Services Librarian, at [email protected], and ask whether that mentor offers more services. What if I have more questions? Our YA Services Librarian, Hannah Lee, can answer any questions you might have. You can contact them via email at [email protected] or by calling 617-993-2873.
