GLEN COVE, NY — It's not every day you see a baseball legend enjoying an outdoor concert in your neighborhood. But that's exactly what happened in Glen Cove last week. On Friday, former Yankees player Bernie Williams made a surprise appearance at Glen Cove's "Downtown Sounds" summer concert series. Presented by the city's Downtown Business Improvement District, "Downtown Sounds" takes place at Glen Cove Village Square Plaza every Friday through Aug. 27. Last week's concert featured a performance by Lord's of 52nd Street — which is comprised of members from Billy Joel's 1970s touring band. Williams, 52, is a former baseball player and musician from Puerto Rico. In his 16-year Major League Baseball career, which started in 1991, he played for the New York Yankees. The centerfielder was part of four World Series championship teams with the Yankees.
