MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police Tuesday sent a heartfelt message to the community to never forget the victims of the Hartford Distributors mass shooting 11 years ago.
The statement read, "On August 3, 2010, eight lives were taken when a gunman opened fire at Hartford Distributors Inc. in Manchester, CT. Today marks the 11th anniversary of this tragic event."
Police then focused on the memorial set up at the site featuring eight stainless steel pillars.
"The pillars stand on the grounds of Hartford Distributors Inc. as a memorial to those no longer here. Please take a moment to remember the lives lost that day," police said.
During the incident, Omar Sheriff Thornton, a 34-year-old employee facing severe discipline while being accused of stealing beer from the facility, pulled a gun out of his lunchbox after a hearing and fatally shot eight coworkers before turning a gun on himself.
