HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that seriously injured two people in Hamden, according to police.
Police responded to the 1500 block of Dixwell Avenue around 12:15 a.m. on May 13 on the report of shots fired, according to Detective Sean Dolan.
Officers found a 20-year-old New Haven resident near Dixwell Avenue and Pershing Street. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, according to Dolan.
Dolan said a second victim, a 22-year-old Hamden resident, was shot "multiple times and suffered injuries to his buttocks, hand and pelvis."
A good Samaritan drove him to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to Dolan. Both victims were treated for serious physical injuries, Dolan said.
Detective Jomo Crawford of the Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation that identified James Harris as the shooter, according to Dolan.
Harris, 23, was arrested July 29 on a warrant and charged with first-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 17, according to state judicial records.
