HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The Hackettstown Police Department has charged a man with DWI who drove into the side of a Willow Grove Street house this past Sunday. The crash resulted in residents having to exit their home for a while until the gas company cleared them to return, because of a gas odor. The crash damaged not only a support beam for the home's front porch, but impacted a furnace vent and two gas meters affixed to the residence. Sgt. Darren Tynan, a spokesperson for the police department, said no one was injured during the incident, which happened shortly after midnight on Aug. 1, shutting down the street between Maple Avenue and Route 46 for about 1.5 hours. The Hackettstown Fire Department and Rescue Squad, as well as Elizabethtown Gas Company, all helped out at the scene. Police charged the driver Elmer Geovanni Felipe Y Felipe of Hyattsville, Maryland, with both driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Felipe Y Felipe, 29, was released by police and is planned to have a court appearance soon because of the charges, Tynan said. Questions or comments about this story? Have a news tip?
