SAN BRUNO, CA — A San Francisco man was found guilty Monday on attempted murder charges in the July 2019 shooting at The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Deandre Lejon Gantt, 20, faces up to life in prison for his role in the incident, which prosecutors said involved a shooting between two San Francisco gangs that confronted each other at the shopping center. Two gang members were injured but survived. In addition to attempted murder, a jury also convicted Gantt of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in public and active participation in a criminal street gang. The trial lasted a little over a month, according to prosecutors. San Mateo County District Attorney Steven Wagstaffe was pleased with the verdict, telling the San Mateo Daily Journal that it sends a message to San Francisco gang members to not commit crimes in San Mateo County. Gantt's attorney, Peter Goldscheider, told the Journal that he believed the verdict was a mistake because Gantt was a good person who was acting in self-defense. Gantt, who faces a maximum sentence of 118 years to life in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced in October. He remains in custody on $5 million bail.
