Tinley Park Gets New Electric Aggregation Program Partner

TINLEY PARK, IL — The Village of Tinley Park announced it is partnering with a new energy company following the expiration of its current electrical aggregation contract with MC2 in October. The village signed a one-year agreement with Eligo Energy following a lengthy bid process. According to the village, residents and small business owners will pay exactly the same ComEd rate, which is variable and subject to change on a monthly basis. Like many other surrounding municipalities, the village initially approved of its electrical aggregation program through a referendum. To date, there are around 19,000 accounts in the village's program, and the more who participate, the better the rate can be received, according to the village. "Participants of the program receive the lowest possible pricing and will never pay any hidden fees to join or leave the program," the village states. "This year, the Village also will receive an added benefit of a $70,000 civic contribution from Eligo." According to the village, the cost of serving each electric account varies based on usage patterns. Some ratepayer accounts will remain with the ComEd supply service and others will be served by Eligo, but the net effect is identical for all. Just as in previous programs, ratepayers may choose to opt out, the village said. The new company will mail notices to residents and small businesses on Aug. 11. The village said that depending on your circumstance, you will either receive an opt-out notice, an informative only/opt-in notice, or a return to ComEd service notice. Whether remaining with ComEd or enrolling with Eligo Energy, all residents are considered members of the Tinley Park Aggregation program, according to the village.
