COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry woman will serve four years in prison for her role in a deadly hit-and-run crash in 2017, Attorney General Peter Neronha's Office said. Shannon Holden, 27, pleaded no contest to allegations that she left the scene of a crash, resulting in death. The crash happened July 3, 2017. According to Neronha's Office, Holden arrived at a friend's house that night and said she'd hit what she believed to be a deer on South Road in Exeter. At the crash scene, police found the body of Sarah Balmforth, also 27, with vehicle debris that matched the damage to Holden's Jeep. Holden pleaded no contest to one count of duty to stop in an accident resulting in death. On Monday, she was sentenced to seven years in prison, with four to serve, along with a three-year license suspension upon release from prison and a $5,000 fine.
