Parents Can Prepare For Back-To-School With District 202 Program

PLAINFIELD, IL — Students are returning to school full time this fall, and to prepare parents for the "new normal," District 202's Plainfield Parent Community Network is hosting a program at Plainfield North High School Aug. 12. From 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the high school's auditorium, 12005 S. 248th St., parents can learn ways to talk to their kids about returning to school, addressing anxieties and fears about COVID-19, officials said Tuesday. One of the scheduled presentations for the night includes therapists Dorothy Kuklinkski and Tammy Tunac from Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. Registration for the free event isn't necessary, but childcare won't be available, officials said. Presentations will be available in English and Spanish. District officials are also requiring people who aren't vaccinated to wear masks. One of the district's initiatives is to implement social-emotional support programs for parents and students, and this upcoming event is a way to "help improve and assure students' academic success." Twenty social workers were also hired across the district for the upcoming school year as part of the initiative.
