OSWEGO, IL — A 13-year-old boy died in a two-car crash on Route 71 near Ravine Court Monday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.
The boy was identified as Joseph Burdiak of Yorkville by the Kendall County Coroner's Office Tuesday afternoon.
According to state police, a 22-year-old Aurora man was driving a white Ford pickup truck west on Route 71 when it crossed the center lane for an unknown reason and sideswiped an eastbound grey Chevy SUV around 1:15 p.m. The impact caused the SUV to spin out of control, eventually striking the guardrail.
Burdiak died at the scene from his injuries, while the 54-year-old SUV driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, officials said. The driver of the pickup was not injured, Illinois State Police confirmed.
The road, between Route 126 and Reservation Road, was closed until 5:30 p.m. Monday while police, assisted by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, investigated the scene.
