LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Public Library is strongly encouraging all of its patrons to wear face masks while inside the library. Library Director Heather Shlah said the library is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Illinois Department of Public Health recommendations in response to all three of the counties served by the library (Cook, Will and DuPage) being designated as at substantial risk for transmission of COVID-19. Shlah said mitigations and guidelines have changed frequently since the pandemic began in March 2020. "The new mask guideline is, at this point, a recommendation rather than a mandate, but this could change again at any time," she said. She added that the front line library staff is also strongly encouraged to wear masks when serving the public, regardless of vaccination status. Last week, the IDPH fully adopted the updated CDC masking recommendations, which now recommends that everyone, including those who are fully vaccinated, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with substantial and high transmissions.
