The event will take place at 1 p.m. at Nowell Park's Gardner Street Pavilion, 199 Mills Rd., and will feature a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, talent show, The Lil' Big Wheel Race, double-dutch contest, an activity station, music and giveaways.
According to its literature, Joliet Unity Movement is entering its 8th year as an outreach organization dedicated to building and inspiring youth and empowering the community. The organization has spent the previous seven years "volunteering, mentoring and growing with our youth and families," according to a release, and it is working to stop violence in local communities.
During the last year, Joliet Youth Movement has been forced to do much of its mentoring remote due to COVID-19. The organization said it has delivered personal hygiene products, operated a food pantry and provided personal protective care packages to families during the pandemic.
