LOS ANGELES, CA — Comedian Kathy Griffin announced Monday that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. "I've got to tell you guys something," she wrote on Twitter. "I have cancer. I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked." Griffin, 60, added, "The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less." In 2017, Griffin shave her head as a show of solidarity with her sister, who was undergoing chemotherapy. Her sister died that September. Griffin also lost her brother Gary to cancer in 2014. "It's been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I'm gonna be just fine," Griffin said -- a reference to a 2017 photo shoot she did in which she was pictured holding a bloody head the resembled then-President Donald Trump. Griffin said at the time that she received "death threats" over the shoot. She also lost her gig as co-host of CNN's New Year's Eve show with Anderson Cooper. "Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid," Griffin said Monday. "The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious." She added: "Please stay up to date on your medical checkups. It'll save your life." City News Service
