Description
GLEN ELLYN, IL — Students and staff at College of DuPage (COD) will be required to don face masks at the start of the 2021-22 school year, regardless of vaccination status. Monday's announcement comes amid an increase in coronavirus cases and updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of Jan. 1, 2022, students at COD will be required to show proof that they have a coronavirus vaccination to attend classes in person. Vaccination proof will also be necessary for staff members, faculty and administrators.
In an open letter, COD President Brian Caputo wrote, "Based on the CDC's recent updated guidance, face masks will be required for the fall term for all faculty, staff, administrators, students, and visitors--with the exception of fully vaccinated individuals working alone in their offices. Please note that a new mask protocol is being developed to provide additional details and address specific situations. Of course, as environmental changes occur, we will adjust accordingly."
Caputo went on to encourage students and staff to get vaccinated against coronavirus before school starts on Aug. 23.
He wrote, "Now is the time for everyone to join in the fight against COVID-19. Therefore, if you are not vaccinated, I strongly encourage you to do so before the start of the fall term."
