ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, CA — A brush fire sparked by a burning vehicle scorched about 50 acres in the Angeles National Forest today with 0% containment as of approximately 5 p.m. The Antonio Fire was reported to be burning in about a half-acre of medium brush just before 2:30 p.m. in the area of Glendora Ridge Road and Mount Baldy Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire quickly traveled uphill and grew to about 10 acres by 2:40p.m., causing the closure of Mount Baldy Road and the Claremont Wilderness Park Firefighting helicopters were deployed to aid fire crews in dousing the blaze, which was reported to have grown to 50 acres at about 4:40 p.m. No structures were threatened by the fire. Heat advisories and extreme heat warnings are in place for much of Southern California today through midweek, with the National Weather Service warning that critical fire conditions are expected, including triple-digit temperatures in some areas, low humidity and gusty winds. According to the National Weather Service, most areas can expect temperatures that are 6 to 12 degrees above normal through Wednesday. |Update| #AntonioFire - The fire has grown to 45-50 acres and remains 0% contained.
