TRI-VALLEY, CA — Monday was a busy day for local firefighters. Crews battled a tractor-trailer fire in Pleasanton, plus two building fires in Livermore. Officials also responded to two car crashes and two minimal house fires, said LPFD Battalion Chief Kurtis Dickey in an email. A motorcyclist was seriously injured in one of the crashes. Firefighters first headed to Janus Court in Livermore around 1:15 a.m., where a garage had caught fire. Crews quickly contained the fire, though everything in the garage was destroyed, he said. A tractor-trailer fire was reported around 9 a.m. on westbound Interstate Highway 580 at Hopyard Road in Pleasanton, said Deputy Chief Jason Solak in an email. The driver separated the trailer from the tractor and saved the tractor from any damage. Two I-580 lanes were closed for an hour. Around 4:30 p.m., a motorcyclist was hospitalized at Castro Valley's Eden Medical Center with traumatic injuries after a Livermore crash on eastbound I-580 near First Street. Medics blocked several lanes of traffic while treating the patient and traffic backed up several miles, Dickey said. Firefighters then headed to a roof fire in the 1400 block of Stealth Street in Livermore shortly before 6 p.m. The fire spread to an HVAC unit, Dickey said. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the roof, which was minimally damaged. Nobody was at the building when the fire broke out and officials believe a hot ember was the culprit; the roof was being redone, he said.
