Description
DEARBORN, MI — Voters in Dearborn took to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes in the primary election for mayor, city council and two proposals.
Dearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly, who has served in the position since 2007, is not seeking re-election. After devastating storms in late June, O'Reilly came under criticism from residents who felt he was not providing regular updates about the city's plan.
O'Reilly released a statement saying a "health issue" made his ability to attend and speak at public events and news conferences difficult. O'Reilly and his wife recovered from the coronavirus in April of last year.
O'Reilly made his decision not to run for re-election in January.
Here's are the candidates who were on the ballot Tuesday in the mayoral primary and the latest unofficial results as off 11:15 p.m.:
Hussein Berry: 470
Susan A. Dabaja: 1,786
Abdullah Hammoud: 5,710
Jim Parrelly: 428
Thomas Patrick Tafelski: 1,544
Kalette Shari Willis: 42
Gary Woronchak: 1,457
Write-in: 10
The two candidates who get the most votes will advance to the general election.
